CHRISTIAN COUNSELING AS THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY.

Today we are going to look at the importance of the work of counselling in the Kingdom of God.

Christian counselling is also the work of ministry. There are some who are called to be counsellors. There are some who are trained to be counsellors. These sets of disciples are trained to speak the word of God in SEASON to him/her who is weary (Isaiah 50:4).

As a counsellor you should have rivers of living water flowing in your belly.

That is, they must speak the word of God at the appropriate time, in an appropriate setting and at the appropriate place. It should not be done in a haphazard manner.  It will not yield a result.

Christian counselling is a ministry in its own right and so those who are engaging in it must consider it so and must be serious about it.  Apostle Paul stressing the importance of Christian counselling declared in

Col 1:28 AMP

Him we preach and proclaim warning and admonishing everyone and instructing everyone in all wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God), that we may present every person mature (full-grown, fully initiated, complete, and perfect) in Christ (the Anointed One).”

His day to day activities also involved counselling individuals too. In Acts 20:27 AMP, Paul made a solemn declaration about his counselling activities. He said,

For I never shrank or kept back or fell short from declaring to you the whole purpose and plan and counsel of God.

Therefore, as a counsellor you should always remember that you are engaged in the ministry. Take your assignment seriously and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you at all times as previously mentioned.

In the next installment of this teaching, we will be looking at how to yield to the leading and direction of the Holy Spirit. For without Him there is no Christian counselling.
Until then, God bless you.
