Mark 10:46-52 (Amplified Bible)
46Then they came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, a son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside.47And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have pity and mercy on me [now]! 48And many severely censured and reproved him, telling him to keep still, but he kept on shouting out all the more, You Son of David, have pity and mercy on me [now]! 49And Jesus stopped and said, Call him. And they called the blind man, telling him, Take courage! Get up! He is calling you.50And throwing off his outer garment, he leaped up and came to Jesus.51And Jesus said to him, What do you want Me to do for you? And the blind man said to Him, Master, let me receive my sight.52And Jesus said to him, Go your way; your faith has healed you. And at once he received his sight and accompanied Jesus on the road.
Attitude: Those who attract the attention of God are those who are displaying an attitude showing that they are tired of their situation or the condition that the enemy has subjected them to. In Mark 10:46-47, the scripture says that a blind beggar was sitting by the roadside begging for alms but when he heard that Jesus was passing by, he raised his voice and began to shout. Why? Because he wanted to attract the attention of the Master, Jesus.
He was tired of his condition. He was tired of begging. Attitude is a prelude to any solution. Your attitude to any problem will determine whether you will come out of the problem or remain in it.
Digging Deeper: To attract the attention of God, you must do the unusual. You must cry to God with all of your spirit, soul and body; your whole being. Let nothing stop you from getting the attention of God. Declare and petition God with an attitude of faith. Refuse to be consoled with nothing except the face of God.
Don’t allow one moment of opportunity of meeting with God to pass you by: seize every moment opportunity present to you to meet with the Lord. Grab every moment you have with God with open arms. Don’t allow the moment of prayer to pass you by or the moment you hear the gospel of salvation to pass away. You must be like blind Bartimaeus who seized the opportunity. Upon hearing about the good news he received his deliverance and salvation immediately. He realised that Jesus Christ may not pass that way again so he grabbed the opportunity with open arms even when he was being censured and told to keep quiet.
Refuse to listen to the crowd: Don’t allow the people around you to weigh you down. Don’t pay attention to what will make you remain in your dejected state but to what will make you attract the attention of God. How? You do what Bartimaeus did. When he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by his way he refused to listen to the crowd who were telling him to keep his mouth shut and that Jesus did not come for people like him. Why? They wanted him to remain perpetually blind and a beggar. Hence he kept shouting, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.”
Unshakeable faith: Finally, you must cultivate an unshakeable attitude of faith. Faith that moves mountains. Your belief in God must be unquestionable and unshaken. You must believe that God is more than able to do all things. You must believe that your situation cannot remain the same when you meet God, the Unchangeable Changer. When Bartimaeus came to Jesus, the scripture says, He asked him “what do you want me to do for you?” It was a test of faith for him. So when he declared with his mouth that he wanted his sight restored, it was an acknowledgement of his belief that Jesus Christ has the power to bring back his sight. And he got his sight because of his faith!
