If you see what happened in the scripture below, you will discover that, there was a crossover from Abram to Abraham.
Genesis 17:5
5Nor shall your name any longer be Abram [high, exalted father]; but your name shall be Abraham [father of a multitude], for I have made you the father of many nations.
There was also a crossover from Jacob to Israel.
10Again God said to him, Your name is Jacob [supplanter]; you shall not be called Jacob any longer, but Israel shall be your name. So He called him Israel [contender with God]. 11And God said to him, I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you and kings shall be born of your stock;
But, the crossover of Jacob to Israel should teach every believer a great lesson. How?
Genesis 32:24-28
24And Jacob was left alone, and a Man wrestled with him until daybreak. 25And when [the Man] saw that He did not prevail against [Jacob], He touched the hollow of his thigh; and Jacob's thigh was put out of joint as he wrestled with Him.26Then He said, Let Me go, for day is breaking. But [Jacob] said, I will not let You go unless You declare a blessing upon me.27[The Man] asked him, What is your name? And [in shock of realization, whispering] he said, Jacob [supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler]!28And He said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob [supplanter], but Israel [contender with God]; for you have contended and have power with God and with men and have prevailed.
The bible said here that Jacob wrestled with an Angel of God until the breaking of the day. The break of the day here could be the crossover to a new day, or month or a new year. But, what did Jacob do, to help him to crossover to this new day? He prayed prevailing prayers.
What we witnessed from Jacob is that as soon as he crossed over into Israel, his life changed. He moved from being a supplanter into a prince. A prince is one who has a domain of rulership, riches, wealth and prosperity.
You should not forget that before this incident that was recorded, there was fear in him. Jacob was entertaining a great fear that he would not live to the next day; that his entire family might be destroyed by his brother Esau [who was a hunter and a temperamental man]. This is the situation Jacob found himself in.
So he took his case before God and began to cry. The bible says he wrestled with an angel of the Lord God Almighty. He was persistent in his cry in prayer; saying to God You must attend to my case. He said, “I will never let You go unless You bless me.” This must be the case of every believer, we must cry to God saying, I will never let 2011 go unless You bless me God!”
That is the significance of crossing over. It goes with a CHANGE. There can never be a crossover without something structural happening. You must move away from insecurity placed upon your heart by the devil to a place where you are secured in Christ Jesus. This can only be achieved through prayer.
We are now going to pray the following prayer points to bring home this conviction that 2011 will not go without the Lord God Almighty, hearing our cry and blessing us. Remember, the word says, “Command Ye me.” Remind the Father of the promises in His word.
Prayer points
- In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I will not let 2011 go unless You declare a blessing upon me.
- In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, oh Lord, change who I am into what You want me to be.
- Father in the name of Jesus Christ, Oh Lord, remould, recreate and transform me into a new man.
- In the name of Jesus Christ, make me a prince(cess) and a prevailer over man in the coming year.
- In the name of Jesus, I decree and declare dominion over every situation and challenges in the coming year.
