A Moment of Courage

Beloved one moment of courage by you could turn around your life and destiny and change it to the best. Don’t hesitate to do good even when others are fearful of doing it or running away from it. Child of God, do it, for the expected change you are looking for may be tied around it. Let us look at the scriptures for direction.

2 Samuel 6:6-12 (AMP)
6And when they came to Nacon's threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled and shook it. 7And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for touching the ark, and he died there by the ark of God. 8David was grieved and offended because the Lord had broken forth upon Uzzah, and that place is called Perez-uzzah [the breaking forth upon Uzzah] to this day. 9David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, How can the ark of the Lord come to me? 10So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to him into the City of David; but he took it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.11And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.12And it was told King David, The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the City of David with rejoicing;

Here in this scripture, king David had ordered the Ark of God to be brought to the city of David. They set out doing this with pomp and pageantry, playing all manners of instruments, rejoicing and dancing but an accident struck on the way. Uzzah stretched out his hand and held the Ark of God in an attempt to keep it from falling but the anger of the LORD was kindled against him and he was struck dead. David and all that were with him became afraid; he said “How will the Ark of the LORD come to me?”

Beloved it was at this moment the party became over. Fear gripped all. Nobody was willing to go near the Ark any more. Everybody deserted the Ark and went home. David was left with the problem of where to pitch the Ark? He had two options available to him. Firstly, he could abandon the Ark of God in the middle of the road or look for someone who would be willing to sacrifice his life and his entire household. All freeborn Israelite men refused to house the Ark because they believed it would bring death to their house.
David was in a maze of confusion! Until a foreigner offered to help and risk the consequences. His name was Obed-edom, the Gittite. He told king David to take the Ark to his house. By all religious standards and considerations the Ark of God was not suppose to enter into his house.

But he said, “I am willing to pay the supreme price with my entire household, so take the Ark of God to my house.” That bold and courageous declaration solved David’s problem. It was a great risk taken by this great man of faith. An action which depicted the role played by Jesus Christ who paid the supreme price with His life and blood in order to save the World and brought salvation to humanity.

It brought reprieve to king David and saved him from national disgrace. David himself was afraid to go any further with the Ark of God. The bible said that within the 3 months the Ark had stayed in his house, nobody died neither did any calamity befall Obed-edom. Instead, God blessed him and his entire household. He became the talk of the town and the envy of all. And because no evil or calamity befell him, or any member of his household, this attracted the attention of king David who then asked that the Ark of God be brought again to the city of David.

That moment of bravery and courage earned Obed-edom a place of honour and changed his life and those of the members of his household. Every true believer should look at Obed-edom and emulate his act and character. We should be willing to show love when others are cold, show courage when others are fearful and lay down our life for the work of God and gospel of Christ. We should be able to use our calling, career, profession, ministry to make a difference that will create a positive change in people’s lives and expand the kingdom of God. We should be brave against all odds and turn the tide against the kingdom of darkness. Every kingdom risk taken by you has a reward. God bless you!
