Acts
1:4
“And while being in their
company and eating at the table with them, He commanded them not to leave
Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised, of which [He said] you
have heard Me speak.”
Beloved has God made a
promise to you? And you are sure He made the promise? Wait on the Lord to bring
His promise to pass. Don’t rebel against God and His promise to you. The hand
of the Lord is not limited that He cannot bring His promise to pass. Just stick
to His promise! God’s promise will surely manifest in due course. Beloved,
instead of the promise of God not coming to pass, it is written, Heaven and
Earth will pass away. Because God is so adept at bringing His promises into
being; He has proclaimed Heaven and Earth will cease to be if His word doesnot
come to pass. The promise of God is entwined in His creative ability. God has
got the ability to bring those good things which have not been in existence in
your life but which He promised to you into being. Creating things from the
nonexistent is part of what makes Him God. Can you see how serious God is with
every promise He’s made to you?
Keys to
waiting for the promise
While you are waiting for
the promise of God you must closely follow and diligently observe the
following:-
Godliness
1 Tim 6:11
“...; aim at and pursue
righteousness (right standing with God and true goodness), godliness (which is
the loving fear of God and being Christlike), faith, love, steadfastness
(patience), and gentleness of the heart”.
Godliness is a
wall you must lean on when you are waiting on the promise of
God. Godliness is akin to holiness, righteousness, devoutness and zealousness
in the service and worship of the Lord God. It refers to how much of God’s
character manifests in your life. The quality of the relationship you cultivate
with God determines the amount of godliness in you. It is practicing Christian
living at the highest level. Christianity is a way of life. Continue with Christ’s
way of life and go on imitating Jesus Christ in everything you do. Do not
deviate! Don’t go into committing sin in order to hasten the promise of God.
Don’t try any short-cut. Don’t try to help God. Leave it to God to fulfil His
promise to you in His own way and time. The only way to help bring the promise
of God to pass is by continuing in righteousness and holiness.
Faith
Hebrew 11:1
“Now FAITH is the assurance
(the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof
of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving
as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].”
Faith is
another characteristic you must wear like clothes
when you are waiting for the promise of God. Faith is a strong and an
unshakeable belief that God who promises is able to fulfil His promise. Clinging
onto what you are promised and never allowing it to fade away in your heart and
mind. Don’t entertain any doubt whatsoever in your heart or mind about God’s
ability to perform. Never open your door to fear about whether it will ever or
never happen.
Patience
Romans 8:25
“But if we hope for what is still
unseen by us, we wait for it with patience and composure”
Patience is another major plank of waiting on for the promise of
God. Waiting for the promise of God must be done with patience and composure
not panicking or fretting. Patience has something to do with tolerance,
endurance and staying power. You have to be strong in the Lord for you to have
the staying power and patience to wait for the fulfilment of God’s promise. Yes,
because sometimes the enemy will ask you, “where is the God you say you are
serving? Where is the God you say promised you Heaven and eternity?” Be prepared
to be mocked by the enemy when you are waiting. Wear a thick skin and cloth
yourself with faith. Don’t give up on your promise!
Longsuffering
Colossians 1:11 (KJV)
“Strengthened with all
might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering
with joyfulness”.
When you are waiting on the
promise of God you must put all your trust and energy in God and rely on Him
solely. Don’t wear a forlorn face, looking dejected. Longsuffering has a lot to
do with patience, perseverance and forbearance. It has more to do with the long
run type of patience where you must be prepared to endure all kinds of insults
because of your belief. It has more to do with forgiving the unforgivable and
accommodating those who revile you and mock you when the promise of God comes
to pass in your life.
Charity
1 Corinthians 13:4
“Love endures long and is
patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not
boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily”.
Charity is love. Owe no man anything except love says the book of life (Romans 13:8). When you are waiting
for the promise of God, you must be kind to all. Show Christ-like love to all.
Un-forgiveness, envy and jealousy must have no place in your heart. And in
keeping with our Christian living you must render help to others even at your
own expense. You must give liberally to the needy. Some say people who give are
people who have so much left-overs. No! If you can’t give from the little you
have, you cannot give from the left-overs that you don’t have any use for them.
When you are waiting for the promise of God, God must see you doing good for
others with what you have already.
