The Plague of Firstborn: Passover (Pesach)

It simply means the plague which the LORD (Hashem) visited on every firstborn Egyptian. It is a divine visitation where God visited both the righteous and wicked. For the righteous HE passed over them unharmed but for the unrighteous he meted out death to their firstborns. The plague was so devastating that there was no home in Egypt that was exempted. Even the firstborn servants and animals were all killed. But while there was wailing and crying throughout the land of Egypt God spared the children of Israel from this disaster. God made a distinction between the abode of His chosen people and those of the enemy of God. Thus Passover signifies God’s mercy toward the children of Israel on a night that He slew every firstborn Egyptian.

Passover is called Pesach (Peh΄-sakh) in Hebrew which means an exemption, immunity or an indemnity. Pesach has its roots from another Hebrew word called Pasach (paw-sakh΄) which figuratively stands for skip over or spare. In Greek it is called Pascha (Pas΄-khah) which was borrowed from Hebrew, a variant of Chaldean dialect, and usually used only in connection with the Passover meal, Passover day and Passover festival.
Passover is both a divine insurance and assurance. When your comrades are made to pay a fine or penalty and you are the only one exempted it means you are no more liable. You are the favoured one. If you are immune from the attack of any disease it means you are disease-resistant. When you are indemnified on any risk it means that there is a policy cover guaranteeing you security. In other words there is protection from harm, destruction or calamity.

Divine assurance speaks of assurance of salvation, deliverance, good health, protection and prosperity in the midst of death, lack, deprivation, poverty, failure and wickedness; when there is a total eclipse of darkness all over the land because of sin/corruption and yet there is some select group enjoying light; when there is drought and famine in the land yet there are some people who sow seed and reap bountifully. Passover is the climax of God’s judgment on and over Pharaoh and Egypt. When God visited Pharaoh and Egypt with the plague of the firstborn, the resistance that pharaoh had over God’s command before to let the chosen people go was completely destroyed.

Exodus 11 (AMP)
11 Then the Lord said to Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more on Pharaoh and on Egypt; afterwards he will let you go. When he lets you go from here, he will thrust you out altogether. 2 Speak now in the hearing of the people, and let every man solicit and ask of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver and jewels of gold. 3 And the Lord gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was exceedingly great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and of the people. 4 And Moses said, Thus says the Lord, About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt; 5 And all the firstborn in the land [the pride, hope, and joy] of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the maidservant who is behind the hand mill, and all the firstborn of beasts. 6 There shall be a great cry in all the land of Egypt, such as has never been nor ever shall be again. 7 But against any of the Israelites shall not so much as a dog move his tongue against man or beast, that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between the Egyptians and Israel. 8 And all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, Get out, and all the people who follow you! And after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in great anger.

Beloved take a look at what happened on the eve of Passover it will give you a proper spiritual understanding of Passover. The Children of Israel were asked to demand from their Egyptians neighbour treasures of gold and silver which they did and were abundantly given. How do you explain this if not that they were the chosen and favoured people of God. The bible said that it was in fulfillment of God’s prophecy and promise to Abraham that

14 ... I will bring judgment on that nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. 15 And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old (hoary) age” (Genesis 15:14-15 AMP).

The scripture stated clearly that God personally executed this judgment on Pharaoh and the whole of Egypt. He did not delegate any Angel or emissary to carry out this assignment.

“12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment [proving their helplessness]. I am the Lord. 13 The blood shall be for a token or sign to you upon [the doorposts of] the houses where you are, [that] when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt” (Exodus 12:12-13).

The Significance of the Passover
What does the Jewish Passover stand for every child of God? The Passover celebration is a command from God which serves as a memorial of salvation and deliverance from bondage and slavery from Egypt. If you are one those children of God or believers who suffered terribly from the hand of the enemy and all of a sudden by divine intervention and earthquake you are released you must always begin your Passover with the Jews. You must celebrate it with them because the oppressor and wicked enemy holding you captive was your Pharaoh and Egypt; and the suffering you went through is the load and burden of Pharaoh you were being suffocated with before your freedom.

If you are one of those who nearly missed Heaven but by the stroke of mercy of Hashem (God) you are now assured of your salvation you must start your Passover with the Jews. Beloved if you as a child of God once had similar desecrate experiences like those of the Jews you must start celebrating your Passover with the Jews.

What is the significance of the death of the firstborn Egyptians?  The firstborn Egyptians were killed because they persecuted and oppressed the children of Israel and never repented. Moreover they died because every firstborn is the inheritor of the lion’s share of a kingdom’s wealth. This implies that the wicked, no matter how highly placed, shall one day be made to account for their wickedness. The firstborn servants died because they benefited from the forced labour. This indicates that anybody living with a man/woman cursed and enjoying together looted and ill-gotten/corrupt riches and wealth with him/her will altogether be punished.

Then again the Celebration of Passover is not a celebration of the death of firstborn Egyptians but a commemoration of an event that showed the mercy, love, kindness, salvation, deliverance, power and might that the One and Only Almighty God can do. It is a festival of remembrance that God alone is God. It is a celebration that shows that God can do anything or can use anything including nature to secure the release of the oppressed from the oppressor.

Passover is a symbol of eternal freedom and judgment. Just as the children of Israel were freed from slavery and inherited the land flowing with milk and honey so shall all who believe and accept Lord Yeshua (Jesus Christ) as Lord and Saviour will be eternally free. On that day only true believers will be saved and rapture. Yeshua (Messiah) will free them from both the spiritual and physical bondage, slavery, persecution, oppression and all forms repressive tendencies orchestrated by the kingdom of darkness. Finally the free gift associated with this eternal freedom is eternity in Heaven.  However for the Pharaohs of this World and their cohorts judgment is imminent. The result of their stubbornness and wickedness is eternal bondage in hell. Together they will all suffer perpetual incarceration with their master the devil.

The Blood Moon

Time lapse picture of the 2014 blood moons

God said, “Let there be luminaries in the firmament of the heaven to separate between night and day; and shall serve as signs, and for festivals, and for days and years (Genesis 1:14,The Stone Edition).

The blood moon as a sign was predicted to appear in the sky on the 15th April 2014 coinciding with the commemoration of the Jewish Passover. This prediction was made by NASA USA. Child of God let us make ourselves ready for a great move of God. Amen.
